Over 60 journalists from across West Africa convened in Accra for a two-day workshop organized by the Africa-Israel Media Network (AIMEN), aimed at strengthening responsible reporting and countering rising antisemitic narratives within the global media space.
The workshop, themed “Ethical Journalism and the Fight Against Antisemitism”, featured experts from the Israeli Ministry of Diaspora Affairs, the World Zionist Organization, and leading African journalism schools. Participants explored the growing influence of misinformation and social media manipulation in shaping public opinion about Israel and the Jewish community.
Through interactive sessions and group discussions, attendees learned practical techniques for identifying and debunking propaganda, applying ethical frameworks to international reporting, and promoting intercultural understanding through journalism.
According to AIMEN’s Regional Coordinator for West Africa, “African journalists have a unique voice in the global media landscape. By choosing accuracy over emotion, and fact over bias, we contribute to building bridges rather than walls.”
At the close of the event, participants adopted the Accra Media Responsibility Charter — a declaration of commitment to fair and factual reporting on issues involving faith, ethnicity, and international relations.
