The Africa-Israel Media Network (AIMEN) has inaugurated its flagship Africa-Israel Journalist Exchange Initiative, a groundbreaking program designed to strengthen professional collaboration, knowledge sharing, and mutual understanding between journalists from Africa and Israel.
The first phase of the initiative, jointly hosted in Jerusalem and Nairobi, brought together 20 journalists representing news outlets from Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Israel. Over the course of four weeks, participants engaged in newsroom immersions, joint reporting assignments, and cultural exchange visits.
Workshops focused on essential themes such as conflict-sensitive journalism, media ethics, peace reporting, and responsible storytelling in a digitally connected world. Participants also explored the historical ties between Africa and Israel and discussed how balanced media narratives can help reshape public perception on both sides.
AIMEN’s Executive Director, during the official launch in Jerusalem, emphasized that the initiative represents more than just an exchange of journalists — it is an exchange of perspectives and values.
“For far too long, narratives about Africa and Israel have been told by external voices. AIMEN’s mission is to empower our journalists to tell our stories with truth, depth, and balance,” he said.
The exchange is supported by Israel’s Government Press Office (GPO) and several African media associations. Plans are already underway to expand the program to include French-speaking African countries in the next cohort.
